Ananda Yoga
“Ananda Yoga is meditation in movement.”
— Swami Kriyananda
What is Ananda Yoga?
Ananda Yoga® aims to bring the ancient sciences yoga back to its original spiritual essence. It combines the best of a revitalizing workout with a gentle inward approach that leaves you feeling mentally rejuvenated and peaceful.
Asanas to Deeply Relax the Body
In our daily life we feel rushed, as if we do not have the time to stop, take a holiday or even fully enjoy our own company. Ananda Yoga® helps the practitioner to deeply relax and enjoy being in that state. The benefits of doing yoga this way, is that it spills into their daily routine.

Asanas to Raise Consciousness
Ananda Yoga® does not focus only on forcing energy up the spine. Instead, it uses asana, pranayama, and meditation techniques to magnetically draw prana up the spine to the brain — safely, gently, and harmoniously. In Ananda Yoga®, we emphasise using the mind not only to become more aware of each asana’s intrinsic energy flow, but strengthen that flow as a means of raising our consciousness.
Affirmations to Strengthen the Mind
A primary way in which we use the mind is through affirmations. The natural effects of each posture are enhanced by these powerful affirmations. Thus Ananda Yoga® works on all three levels of body, mind and soul. It is a gentle form of yoga and suits every person respecting individual body types and limitations.
Ananda Chair Yoga
This form of Yoga is great for seniors, office goers, people in healing who want to practise yoga with chair-assistance. The chair yoga encourages people of all ages to start Yoga from a place of comfort. Yoga is not just about doing the perfect asana, but it is about channelizing energy and moving your body as much as one can. By progressing in chair yoga poses everyday, one may be encouraged to begin doing Yoga on the floor.
What Are Some Benefits of Chair Yoga?
- Improved flexibility
- Better strength and balance
- Increased energy and mental clarity

Meet the Teachers
Ananda Mumbai’s Yoga teachers are a group of dynamic people who add joy to the Yoga classes. Know more about them…
Sanjyot
Having a Masters’s degree in Biological Macromolecules and Cambridge International Education, Sanjyot is a professional educator and curriculum developer for the past 20 years.
The motivation for her was the Ananda yoga’s gentle asana variations, which prepared her body for the challenging poses. Swami Kriyananda’s powerful affirmations opened my mental blocks and helped me to relax amid efforts. Hence she always uses this magic of Affirmations and asana variations to create uplifting energy in the class to fulfill the real purpose of Yoga- a union of body, mind, and soul.
Using strong demonstrative ability, Sanjyot consistently personalizes the instructions and variations using props like straps, blocks, chairs, walls, catering to student needs, limitations, and interests. Sanjyot is skilled in adapting to diverse learning styles; she has successfully conducted resourceful theme-based workshops and corporate chair yoga workshops.
She aims to bring Ananda yoga practice into everyday life to physically and spiritually enhance the lives of every individual.
Divisha
Divisha has been practicing Kriya Yoga since 2015. She had been seeking a form of yoga that was both energetic and spiritual, to help her center her energy, develop strength and go within. Her meditations became deeper, and she left lighter and calmer.
Whether it is for optimal health, or for uplifting one’s consciousness, one can take this form of yoga as deep as he wants.
Her favorite asana is Ardha Matsyendra which goes with the affirmation “I radiate love and goodwill to soul-friends everywhere.”
Raghu
After working for a Dutch,British and South Korean shipping company for 30 years, Raghu retired from a happy job.
His favorite part of teaching Ananda Yoga is Swami Kriyananda’s affirmations. For example, his favorite pose is Gomukh Asana, which has the affirmation, “Free in my heart, I live without fear.” He believes that Ananda Yoga is so appealing because when one names the feelings or emotions that come out of the practicing of an asana, then one begins to live in the expanded consciousness and immediately feels relaxed and at peace.
He is blessed with a daughter and a son. He loves to read, listen to music, and travel.
Monica
A fifth-generation Mumbaikar, Monica is blessed with a beautiful family and is a mother of two girls. Her journey with and through the Ananda Sangha has been transformative.
Yoga has been a passion since her childhood, and her parents supported her since she was in school to learn Yoga.
